Issue No. 22

December 1948

An Interference of Merit (my title) - An international airport is being built on the independent island of Sharkan. A special commission asks the Hawks to secretly guard the airport. On an evening out, Blackhawk is confronted by Madame Fear who warns him someone is threatening Sharkan Island. The Hawks and Fear land at the airport and are immediately bombed, cutting off radio, radar and plane availability. After which the island is attacked by a paramilitary force. On a recon mission, Blackhawk and Fear learn the raiders are led by Commander Orloff, who plans on destroying the installation and then reappear as a public servant, rebuilding the airport and controlling its every aspect.

His Name Is Plunder - Blackhawk and Hendrickson rescue Adam Pierce, a stranded scientist, who dies in their arms whispering ‘Mauna Koa’. While investigating Pierce’s last days prior to his disappearance, the Hawks meet his daughter who informs them of her father’s strained relationship with his colleague, John Molten. Returning to their island, the Hawks experience earth tremors caused by a string of volcanic islands, one of which is Mauna Koa. Hendrickson and Blackhawk investigate the volcano island and confront Molten, who has been kidnapping scientists and forcing them to help him control thermal energy.

Chop-Chop story, 8 pgs.

2-page Blackhawk text story - ‘Senorita from Ecuador’

The Men from the Asteroid - It’s “Our-world-is-too-small,-let’s-conquer-Earth” time again. This story has red aliens (we can tell these stories apart only by the weird skin color of each invading race). They unleash a deadly cloud that strips animals (and humans) down to their bones. (This must be before our own modern technology started releasing obnoxious clouds) Guess what? The Blackhawks win!
