May 1955

Thunder the Indestructible: A sphere streaks in from outer space and crashes into Europe. It releases a giant figure who seems impervious to all weapons. The Blackhawks try to reason with the giant, who is given the name Thunder, but he only attacks. The Blackhawks try tanks and artillery but nothing works. They try trapping Thunder in a H-bomb bunker but he punches his way through a massive steel door. A scientist tries to communicate with the monster, but as in the movies War of the Worlds and The Thing, the scientist is killed for his trouble. Finally, Blackhawk lures Thunder into an experimental rocket and blasts him back into space.

Chop-Chop: Stolen rubies fall into Chop-Chop's hands. He tricks the crook into getting caught by the police.

The Incredible Silencer: Fiendish Dr. Hydro invents the Silencer, a device capable of snuffing out an H-Bomb explosion. When America won't acceed to his demands, he decides to turn it over to Russia, who promises to make him commisar of a great nation. But they want to see as test first. Blackhawk foils the plan by dropping another bomb near the Red's bomb, but outside the range of Hydro's ray. When it explodes the Red's think Hydro was scamming them and turn on him.

The Phantom Sniper: A costumed marksman accepts a contract from the Reds to kill the Blackhawks. He shoots the Blackhawks' planes out of the sky with his special bullets and thinks they are dead. But the planes were under robot control and the team breaks in as he tries to collect his reward. He escapes and has Blackhawk in his sight, but Blackhawk turns on a powerful searchlight, blinding the Sniper. At the beginning of the story, the Sniper appears to be a mercenary for hire, but in the next to the last panel he calls Blackhawk a "democratic dog," apparently needing to get in at least a little bit of propaganda. This story presents one of the few times the high rate of destruction of the Blackhawks' aircraft is addressed. In the last panel, Blackhawk says "don't worry about our jets! They all needed an overhauling and it's time we modernized our reserve jets for combat flight anyway!"
