Editor's Note: compare to Blackhawk No. 25

Brother Against Brother - On a visit to their friend, Governor Mahlban, the Blackhawks are attacked by killers who drop dead when they have been prevented from completing their mission. While the fight is going on, Olaf chases the gang's leader but is knocked unconscious when his car wrecks. Olaf finds himself in the hands of Mung, who has contracted to eliminate the Blackhawks for a cartel of their enemies. Olaf easily escapes, but we are told by Mung that it is all part of his plan and obviously Olaf has been tampered with in some way. Back at the Governor's castle, it isn't long before Olaf tries to kill Blackhawk. A bold of lightning flashes in the sky just as Olaf is defeated and instead of dying, he momentarily regains control. The team quickly finds the small incision on the back of Olaf's neck where a control device was implanted by Mung. The Governor's doctor has left the castle, though his instruments remain. They don't know what to do until Hendrickson reveals that he studied medicine when he was young. He operates and removes the control device. In a touching scene, Olaf thanks Hendrickson for saving him. Then the rest of the team goes and pounds on Mung.

Chop Chop - When bad weather delays his flight back to Blackhawk Island, Chop visits his uncle in Chinatown. While at his uncle's store, a disreputable looking character comes in from the rain to buy a souvenir dragon. Later while going to dinner with his uncle, Chop finds the customer dead in an alley and a pawn shop ticket in his pocket for the dragon. Chop wonders why he would spend $1.95 for the dragon and then immediately pawn it for fifty cents. Chop tracks down the dragon and finds it has been used to hide stolen diamonds. The rest of the gang captures Chop but he escapes and rounds up the crooks to turn over to the police. This story stands heads above the usual Chop Chop story. Sure, the Chinese characters are shown speaking in heavily accented English, but Chop is depicted as a smart, brave character who uses both his detective skills and his phyisical prowess to overcome the bad guys. And the mystery is even fairly interesting, at least at first.

Burp the Twerp - A one page comedy short. Burp sprouts a fountain from the top of his head, which his doctor attributes to "water on the brain," and recommends a vacation in the mountains to dry it up. There, Burp sits on a volcano, saving the local village and curing his "water on the brain," but returns to the doctor with a seared rear. (I originally thought this might be a Canadian strip, but Mikel Midnight informs me that it was indeed a Quality Comics humor strip, written and illustrated by Jack Cole. Cole has a high reputation for his humor in the comics world, but I'm afraid I just don't get it.)

Beacon Trap - A text story in which the Blackhawks duplicate some foreign agents' own radio signals to lure a spy submarine into the harbor on Blackhawk Island.

Polito - Polito, "master schemer," plots with local turncoats to assasinate the president of a small nation deep in the mountains of Europe and hand it over to forces of a neighboring country. The Blackhawks fly to the assistance of the "democratic insurrection" against the tyrants. However, the resistance is a sham led by a communist agents who intend to turn both countries over to annexation by a "powerful neighbor" (read Soviet Union here). The Black Knights soon discover the truth, foil a plot to kill them, and round up the villains.

An interesting note, the back cover carries an advertisement for the "1949-50 Hockey Album." This was a long time before hockey became a popular sport in the U.S. and marks this issue as definately Canadian.
