Issue No. 25

June 1949

The Evil of Mung - While visiting Governor Mahlban, an old acquaintance, the Hawks are attacked during their sleep. The assassination is foiled by Blackhawk but the assassin dies before the team can question him. In their pursuit of the man's accomplices, the Hawks capture all but one of them. And as the captured men die as suddenly and mysteriously as the first, Olaf, who has commandeered the governor's car, follows his escapers. Olaf loses control of the car and has a wreck. He awakens in the lair of Mung, a physician who brags to the Blackhawk he had been paid by old Blackhawk enemies to destroy them. Mung allows Olaf to escape and return to his comrades. Olaf tells his teammates about Mung while Blackhawk sends Chuck and Andre off the morgue with the dead assassin for an autopsy. Later, Olaf tries to kill Blackhawk but he fails and that's when the Hawks learn Mung's abilities stem from embedding a transmitter in his victims' neck, forcing them to do his bidding. Now they must operate on Olaf or kill him.
