Issue No. 43

August 1951

Terror from the Catacombs - The Hawks visit an eastern European City during an election. The Catacomb Society, an ancient order of underground plunderers, in fear the new regime will take a stronger hand in trying to destroy their organization, rise up from the city's caverns to wreak acts of terrorism, starting with the assassination of the city's new mayor.

Mr. Blackhawk President - Fusang, a tiny European country, is in the midst of a civil war. The leaders of both powers are corrupt and decide to join forces. Blackhawk, originally there to help the rebels' cause, agrees to become Fusang's temporary president until its countrymen find a suitable replacement. The only man Blackhawk knows who is right for the job though is an outlaw whose admiration of the Hawks prompt him to save them from ambush.

The Street Called Straight - Drug lord and gun runner, Captain Ravage, sets out to out-trick the Hawks after they queer Ravage's pirating. But it begins a series of elaborate setups as Ravage and the Hawks try 'out-trapping' one another.

Text story: "Duty Makes A Capture"

Izmar's Invasion of Earth - The hawks fly over what resembles an observation tower atop a high mountain peak. Finding no indication of one on any map, they land to investigate. The Hawks confront aliens from the planet Ur. They're here to eradicate all life from the earth. (A personal note: This is quite possibly, in my humble experience as a reader and collector of comics for over forty years, the most stupid, most inane story I've ever read. I could go on about this but it's not worth the energy to move my fingers over the keyboard)

Thanks to David Chapman for submitting the cover for this issue and Don Secrease for submitting the synopsis.
