Issue No. 44

September 1951

The King of Winds - A horrific storm interrupts the Hawks' vacation plans. They save as many people as possible before being called to the World Council, where a rotund, pompous man, calling himself the King of Winds, threatens to destroy a large, populated city unless the world's wealth is handed over to him. With a deadline of 24 hours, the Hawks split up to search the world for the madman's wind device.

Azar's Brain - To keep a warmonger at rest, the Hawks are requested by the United Council (Is this the same as the World Council from previous story?) to drop "The Bomb" on the evil Azar's palace. The Hawks are not happy about causing such devastation but they do comply. Afterwards a package containing the madman's brain is delivered to Blackhawk. The Black Knights return home to study it but fall under the brain's hypnotic influence. (Note: There is a slightly disturbing panel in this story showing a child and, presumably, his mother running away in fear as, overhead, the Blackhawk jets prepare to destroy the city. It seems odd the editor would allow the reader to see possibly innocent people being killed by the Blackhawks)

The Genius of Dr. Archer - After winning an aerial dog fight, Blackhawk boards the sinking jet and uncovers vials of deadly bacteria. American Defense officials speculate germ warfare as the Black Knights return home and meet Myra Archer, the daughter of the famous scientist, Winslow Archer. Myra claims her father disappeared while investigating the ancient cities of Vespis in Greece. During their search for Dr. Archer, the Hawks are captured by him and his minions. Archer plans to depopulate the Earth via germ warfare so he can create a new, Spartan dynasty.

The Execution of Timris - Premier Manro of Malvania asks the visiting Blackhawks to witness the hanging of the woman, Timris, for having killed her brother, a cabinet member in Manro's government.
