Issue No. 100

May 1956

The Delphian Menace: Giant mechanical bird-like aliens from the planet Delphus III come to scout Earth for a possible invasion. They decide that defeating the Blackhawks will prove their invincibility. Blackhawk defeats them by tricking them onto a frozen sea and breaking the ice, where upon the water causes the invaders to rust. Aside from the questionable science used to solve the problem (not all metals rust), a pretty good story.

The Ghost Plane: A non-Blackhawk story, Nationalist Chinese and their American allies use a projected image of a F-80 to lure Red Chinese pilots into a trap.

The Citadel of Hate: A huge battleship, the Hirumu, is built as a joint project by Japan and Germany and is manned by a mixed crew. The ships steering and propulsion is damaged by a torpedo attack and the ship is trapped in the Antarctic ice for the next ten years. The crew of sailors and scientists create powerful new weapons with which to attack the free democracies. Of couse, the Blackhawks battle them but it is the fascists creation of a nuclear reactor without control rods that destroys them. This same theme, a lost Japanese warship, has been used in a number of recent works, including a series of paperback novels.

The Steel Scorpion: The dictator of a middle eastern country uses a powerful scorpion like tank to defeat the forces of democracy. The Blackhawks destroy the steel scorpion and save the country for the free world.
