Issue No. 249

Nov.-Dec. 1976

The Sky Skull Caper! (Harold A. Harvey-script, Ric Estrada & George Evans-artists, Carl Gafford-colorist, Jack C. Harris-story editor): As the parachute lowers Olaf and Blackhawk to earth, Olaf administers emergency oxygen which revives Blackhawk. On the ground, Blackhawk says he feels he saw death over him, like a skull in the clouds. Almost immediately, they are attacked by a machine gun-firing, jet-powered sled driven by a man wearing a skull mask. Olaf and Blackhawk defeat the sled. Later, at the hospital where the Blackhawks are being treated after their battle with the Bio-Lord, Blackhawk spots a Nazi war criminal who escapes in a flying wheel chair. He pursues in his jet to a huge skull floating in the sky. The Sky Skull is Von Gross' platform from which he plans world domination (what else?) Fighting alone, Blackhawk sabotages the Sky Skull and just before it crashes into the sea, dives to safety. He swims for a nearby island and on the beach finds himself facing the War Wheel. In a sub plot, Elsa takes Hendrickson to the beach on Blackhawk Island where she shows him a carved wooden doll given her by her mother. Hendrickson reacts with horror and falls to the ground. (Note: in this issue, Blackhawk's plane looks something like a F-101 Voodoo, with a modified tail.)
