Batman & Captain America

... 1996

John Byrne, writer/artist; Patricia Mulvihill, colorist; Jamison, color separator.

The story is set in January, 1945. Batman and Captain America join forces to prevent the deadly duo of the Red Skull and the Joker from gaining control of an atomic bomb (a common plot when superhero stories are set in World War II). Captain America is introduced in a scene where he and Sgt. Rock and the Easy Company are facing a seemingly invincible Nazi war machine that strongly resembles the War Wheel. It may not be "the" War Wheel but it is obviously a version of it.

Thanks to Michael Hutchison for alerting me to this appearance of the War Wheel. And check out Michael's story in Fanzig about Sgt. Rock, Easy Company and the Gravedigger capturing another War Wheel. It's a good one.
