The Scorpion

Many of the Blackkhawks' foes employed mechanical devices and often these devices were in the form of a creature. The Scorpion was a recurring villain who used giant mechanical insects to commit his crimes. The Blackhawks encountered the Scorpion twice. The first time he trapped them with this robot scorpion, as seen on the on the cover of issue No. 146.

Also from issue No. 146, the Scorpion used piloted, giant mechanical insects to battle the Blackhawks like this beetle. These are the forerunners of the mechs that are popular in anime and role playing games, now.

In issue No. 178, the Scorpion returned with more giant mechanical insects. The model shown below represents a giant mechanical scorpion, similar to the giant mechanical bugs shown on the cover at left. A giant mechanical scorpion didn't actually appear in this story, but surely a villian who calls himself the "Scorpion" and who's specialty is giant mechanical insects would have such a thing.
