Other Batmobiles
Batman #148, June 1962

This version evolved from the original 1950 Batmobile and was common from the late '50s into the early '60s. It is very similar to the '50s Batmobile except that it was usually drawn with side panels that ran in straight lines from the headlights to the taillights. The other significant change was the that the canopy was now a hemisphere setting on a flat top body surface. This canopy retracted into the body, as shown in this picture, to allow egress. Ken Kwil wrote to tell me that the Bubble Dome Batmobile first appeared in Detective Comics #223, September 1955. Ken has scratch built a very nice model of this version of the Batmobile.
